4the material looks and feels like bone, haven’t worked it yet so I can’t ...

    I

    Initial impression.

Right out the box, should I say, bag, the material looks and feels like bone, haven’t worked it yet so I can’t tell it for sure. The saddle is of course workable and I knew it from the start and I hope with a little sanding it will fit beautifully. Now, as for the nut, I made a gross error of measurement and it really does not fit my guitar width wise (a trashy acoustic Gremlin made in China, for which I have mixed feelings, in part because it sounds good to me and because I saw it in eBay @ $400! offered as a vintage—Gremlin for real???!!!, also have seen them @ 70 bucks which seems more realistic), Bummer!

I will update this review as soon as I have installed the saddle.

    The update

Well, I installed the saddle (after sanding it down to fit). I have to add a star to the product #1, because IT IS indeed natural BONE, #2, this saddle changed the entire intonation of the guitar and the action is more or less the same as before. I was hoping for it to be brighter but instead it gave it a more profound sound while making it project significantly better. I do not know if I am explaining myself correctly, but the sound changed for good (remember is a cheap-o-guitar!). Maybe is a combination of things, I also changed the machine heads (Antique Gold Lyra-Type Gotoh Classical Guitar Tuners) and put new strings (D'Addario EXP46 Coated Classical Guitar Strings, Hard Tension) on it. Right now it is in the adjustment period and hopefully I have a beater that will be fun to play and keep learning. It crosses my mind to try to do something with the nut, but I will take a break…in a not so distant future perhaps, who knows.

5Perfect for people who want to fix up their guitars and learn along the way
    By Nate Ca
Its a real bone saddle and nut, quiet large so you can shape it to fit perfectly, and is inexpensive. There is not much more you would want for a replacement saddle and nut.
    String spacing is spot on
Both nut and saddle come wider than you need, so you can custom fit it to your classical guitar
Both contain flat and smooth edges on the important places, i.e. the bottom and front of the nut and bottom of the saddle.

Overall, its really inexpensive and a great way to fix up your guitar by yourself, and for me, replacing a thin plastic nut, it sounds and feels alot nicer

    5Pleasantly surprised by the results
    By T. Sang
I bought this to replace the plastic saddle on my student guitar. It is very easy to sand to shape it to match my plastic saddle. Took me about 2 hours. Took out the plastic saddle for the 1st time in 14 years and I noticed the bottom was not even smooth. After replacement, I instantly notice the sustain on the 1st E string is longer and tone improved. Also, bass clarity on the 6th E string has improved and stronger. Overall, volume has increased slightly and tone clarity has improved. Pleasantly surprised by the results.

Now I know what I missed for the past 15 years!
