Buy an extension cable or the upgraded model.
I would give this 5 stars, but the length of the cable is detrimental. If you are taking selfies at arm's length, it is the right size. Any further away and you will need an extension cable. The quality is leaps and bounds better than the internal mic on the GoPro cameras. I've used it for an interview, and had to buy a separate extension cable to get a reasonable 5 feet away.

Great for the price

Great starting point.
Let me set the stage a bit so you know where I am coming from. I am plugging this mic into a GoPro Hero 4 Black which is, in turn, stuck to an Icon Airmada helmet that is strapped to my head when I ride my motorcycle. I have been using it for about two months as of this review. The mic is a wonderful starting point for anyone wanting to get away from the internal mic on their GoPro or other camera. While not perfect, it is light weight, requires no external power, and is small enough to put anywhere you chose. The cord is the perfect length to route inside a helmet, but if attaching it to a transmitter on a belt or in a pocket, may be a touch short. The vocal range is easily picked up in noisy conditions (80 mph inside a helmet with little wind on the mic itself) but the clarity of everything else suffers somewhat. When used in a quiet environment (like an interview in an office, or outside away from the road) the mic is very clear and picks up almost everything. Also of note, the adapter for the mic is a standard 3.5mm jack so if/when you want to upgrade, you aren't dealing with an arbitrary connector that only works with this mic. So, to put a wrap on this whole thing, this is a good choice for those wanting a small, GoPro compatible, microphone. However, if you will be recording in noisy areas or you want higher clarity in the wind or greater range of pickup than just voice, you may want to pass on this one. All that being said, it works well for me and you can't beat the price.
