I ordered this Mendini pocket trumpet for my 6 year old grandson. I intend to teach him the joy of trumpet playing starting this new year. After having been a professional brass instrumentalist for 55 years, I have found this venture to be something that will reward him for the rest of his life. Now, first off, this no where like my Bach Strad, or my Yamaha ($3000+) but for $150 it is well worth the price. Spring and compression is impressive, and I found it to be an all-around responsive instrument. I realize it takes a little more effort with breathing and air requirements, but the size and weight are perfect for him. The only reason I held back a 5 star rating is because it is somewhat difficult to hold with the right hand-- but this is the nature of the pocket or piccolo trumpet. Comes with a sturdy case and a 7C mouthpiece. Also, be aware that these will NOT meet the requirements of school band directors.

Probably a fluke
By Andy W.
I gave this three stars because top-tier quality isn't to be expected at this price-point. The instrument isn't consistently in-tune throughout different harmonics and registers. When I first got the instrument, the valves were loud and scratchy, but I assume they just needed to be broken in. The biggest problem I had was that my personal mouthpieces didn't fit. They would fall right out. I assume that this is just a fluke, but it speaks to their quality control and apparent "play testing".
The stand also came broken.
In conclusion, it's not extremely terrible for the price, and, if the mouthpiece problem is a fluke, it may be worth it for novelty/lamp factor alone.

I can't recommend this instrument to any other musician that depends on a reliable instrument.
It's a beautiful little trumpet BUT, as other reviewers have written, the valves stick! Even with frequent application of the supplied valve oil, two of the three valves consistently stuck. While I was tempted to try some of the remedies suggested by other reviewers (i.e. sanding/polishing the valves), I would have then been stuck with an unreliable instrument should the valves continue to stick. While the tone was reasonably good, the valve problem re-appeared (after lubrication) at the worst possible time . . . during an away gig (I thought this would be a great travelling instrument). Bottom line: No confidence. I can't recommend this instrument to any other musician that depends on a reliable instrument.
