    4One screw was loose. Fixable.
    By K.W.
I ordered this because I wanted a set for practicing and teaching and it was the lowest priced set I could find.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I think these are fairly good quality for being made in China. As I titled the review, there was one screw in the bottom of the box. It had fallen out of its brace position. The brace the screw went into needs filing to hold securely. Alternately, I could get a longer screw of the same size and that would fix it.

The reason this is not an expensive set is because on expensive Timbales, there is a tuning key near the drum heads, but there is another tuner, usually requiring a ratchet, near the bottom of each brace. This set has no bottom tuner.

The problem screw was on the smaller drum which is called the Macho (male). I still tuned without that screw, but it can slip out of tune without it. The larger drum is called the Hembra (female) and is tuned a fourth apart, example: C on Hembra, F on Macho, but some players prefer them a fifth apart, example: C on Hembra, G on Macho. The tuning may be preference or depend on the style or song, but they should be tuned to the key the song is played in as well.

I took away one star for the problem with the screw. If it was not fixable I would send it back. However, the set is sturdy and set up easily and will hold together well.

If you are getting this, I also recommend a set of Timbale sticks. These are not standard drum sticks, but are blunt on each end, which is intended for better resonance when playing. There are several brands available. Here are a couple: Vater Percussion Timbale 3/8 Hickory or Vic Firth World Classic® -- Alex Acuña Conquistador (red) timbale

    4Great Starter Set
    By M D McCallum
Great little drum set for the price. Tunes nicely and both drums have a good tone. The cowbell isn't so great but does have a decent sound.

    1Missing parts
    By Terryann Niles
I received the Drums and it had no instructions to assemble and had missing part for the Cowbell.
I had emailed the seller and went back and forth but no result to getting the missing part. This was a gift and I was really disappointed that the part was missing and I could not give the gift fully assembled.
