    4I really like this Sterling
    By Ronald Romero
The good: The bass arrived is pristine conditions. No apparent cosmetic issues. It looks great. Has good quality tuners. The hardware looks good and feels solid, Convenient battery compartment, active 2 band eq and nice looking humbucker.

The test: The sound is good though the stock strings you can't expect much from..The 2 band eq boost and cut is very responsive, offering great tone shaping. Sounds good, the pickup loud and the signal HOT. The electronics are solid, no problems with the wiring. Tried playing rock, blues, reggae, funk and the slap bass. I was very satisfied. It feels good and plays good enough (Playing right after unpacking the bass, it needs to be properly setup). I took it to my guitar tech and he was surprised that a 299.99 bass sounded so good.

The bad and ugly: When we opened the electronics compartment and checked the inner cavity we found disorder in what is wrongly inserted screws, messing one side of the inner cavity, broken wood and smashes on the bottom. This is factory neglect. And this sort of thing is what happens with cheap guitars. No problems with the electronics.

The problems I found I can work around and deal with.

I strongly believe there is good value in this Sterling SUB Ray 4

    4Excellent bass for the buck!
    By G. Nicholson
This bass was a great deal from the seller compared to many other online sites or stores. Overall it has a few bugs, like some weird circuitry that causes hum in the output and unresponsiveness from the volume knob. Also, the string that ship on it are cheap, so you'll want to replace them no matter who you purchase from. Also, even though it looks like a stained solid wood finish, that is really some kind of design that is either screened on or otherwise applied (though it is done quite well). Overall I really like this bass though. For the money, it's a great bargain on a well made instrument. These are hard to get now and the seller had trouble shipping it to me within the 2 day prime timeframe but they contacted me and overnighted it to me as soon as possible just a couple of days later and included some extras (ball cap and key chain).

    5Best bang for your buck.
    By Francisco Camacho
Hi. I was originally a guitarist until a friend told me he needed a bass player (Next Dawn on Facebook, if you're interested). I planned on buying the 4 string version but I didn't want to mess with string gauges for Drop B tuning, and ended getting this one. The bass has not dissapointed me one bit since I got it. Came with a medium-to-low action from the factory, which was perfect for me. The boost/cut controls are there for when you need them and they work wonderful. We played a 30 minute gig and the bass stayed perfectly in tune through the whole set. As for the sound, I'm not too experienced with bass sounds but I got a lot of compliments after the show so it can't be bad (I run this through a Fender Rumble 350). My only complain is that it didn't come with a gig bag and the B string is a bit too loose but that's personal preference so it's not a big deal. Definitely, best bang for your buck.

I hope this review was helpful. Cheers!
