My Go To Mic for iPhone 6
By S. Garfield
I had the analog version of this mic, and it did a great job for me over the years. No battery required and an easy connection with nothing to worry about. Until the audio quality failed on me on a recent trip.
So I decided to try this digital version of the iRig Mic which plugs into the digital input on iPhone 6, allowing me to plug headphones into the headphone jack of the iPhone. This let me monitor the audio quality in real time. I really did miss being able to do that with the old version of the mic.
Now that I've used this mic many times, I don't even use the monitoring. Since it's a digital connection, the quality is perfect. I love it. The only thing you might want to monitor for is subject's distance to the mic, or popping P's.

Pros and Cons - this is a good mic!
I put this mic to the test conducting over 20 live-streamed periscope interviews at a technical conference in 2 days. I kept the microphone in my briefcase so the extent of my abuse was in pulling it in and out of my bag. I also recorded multiple interviews so my experience wasn't just with using the mic over a live stream. In my research, I think it's the best out there for the price and would recommend it to anyone searching for one.
-Does a great job of isolating sound. I was in a noisy exhibition hall with thousands of people.
-Really good sound quality
-The light is a good (mostly reliable) indicator that the sound is working.
-The gain on the mic is nice.
-The weight is nice, feels solid, almost on par with SM58, E835, etc.
-The paint chipped on the microphone.
-The light flashing different colors makes it look cheap in my opinion.
-It didn't work 3 out of 20 times, the light indicated that sound was coming in, but the stream was totally silent. This could be a periscope issue though, not a problem with the mic.
-The pull fell off of the zipper and the zipper itself broke apart on the bag.
-The cable is only 5' long, it doesn't give much room for the interviewer to move around if your phone is on a tripod.

Great quality absolutely love it
By Nicholas Calderone
Absolutely love this Mic. I ordered it so I would have a good Mic to interview people at CES. I tested it out yesterday to see how well it would pickup my audio and keep out the background noise and it's amazing. It picked up everything I said without getting any of my family talking in the background. It was super clean and I did not need to turn the gain control up. Having the option to control the gain is great an something else cool on this Mic is there is a light near the top that can show you if your going over on your audio levels.
This Mic plugs into your iPhone using a Lighting cable to Micro USB, it also has a Micro USB to Micro USB cable included in the box incase you wish to use it with an Android phone.
There is an adapter that will hold the cable in place so you don't need to worry about pulling it out away from the Mic when doing an interview. It also comes with a nice leather carrying bag.
